- Continue taking all medicines prescribed by your physician.
- Do not skip a meal to come to acupuncture. It is suggested that you eat a light meal an hour prior to a session (or a snack 30 minutes before) to avoid fainting, if session is near a meal time. A major meal may be consumed two hours before or after a session without hampering progress.
- Try not to consume coffee a few hours before and up to six hours after a treatment.
- Avoid very hot, iced or frozen beverages for 2 hours after acupuncture.
- Avoid very hot or cold water from bathing or swimming for a few hours following your treatment.
- Do not use dry heat or steam saunas on acupuncture day.
- Stay away from alcohol or recreational drugs on your treatment day.
- Do not engage in sex or strenuous physical work/exercise for six hours after a session.
- Avoid chiropractic, physical therapy, massage on the day of your treatment.
- Do not take part in other energy-based exercise or treatments (tai chi, qigong, yoga, reiki etc.) for six hours after your treatment.
- Avoid unnecessary stress or confrontation after a treatment. Try to rest or at least to work in a relaxing manner for a number of hours following you session. And schedule in a full night’s sleep.
- Drink plenty of water for two days following your session.
- Most hospital testing or treatments may be scheduled a few hours prior to acupuncture, but not after your session.
